In the initial phase of our RAP journey, Golden Star Group will adopt the Reflect RAP, designed to last between 12 to 18 months. This critical first stage focuses on creating a strong foundation for our reconciliation efforts by fostering a greater understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures within the company. The Reflect RAP is a time of learning, introspection, and strategy development that will allow us to engage meaningfully in reconciliation initiatives.
Our short-term actions will be centred around building internal and external relationships, gaining insights into Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, and identifying areas where Golden Star Group can make a significant impact. Below are the critical components of our Reflect RAP:
A fundamental element of our Reflect RAP is implementing comprehensive cultural awareness training for all employees. We aim to build a workforce that not only understands but values and respects the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This training will cover historical contexts, such as the impacts of colonisation, the Stolen Generations, and contemporary issues Indigenous communities face. It will also emphasise positive cultural contributions, from art and music to knowledge systems and environmental stewardship.
By equipping our staff with this knowledge, we hope to create a workplace where all employees feel respected and valued and where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees can thrive in an environment that acknowledges and supports their cultural identities. The training will also serve as a foundation for understanding the importance of reconciliation and provide tools for engaging respectfully with Indigenous communities.
During the Reflect RAP, Golden Star Group will actively seek to engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, particularly those local to the areas in which we operate. We aim to build solid, meaningful relationships based on mutual respect, trust, and shared goals. This phase will focus on listening and learning from Indigenous voices, ensuring that our reconciliation efforts are guided by First Nations peoples’ lived experiences and expertise.
Engaging with Indigenous communities will allow us to identify specific areas for collaboration, whether through partnerships with Indigenous-owned businesses, participation in communityled events, or initiatives supporting local economic development. These relationships must be based on genuine dialogue and a shared vision for long-term, sustainable change.
One of the most crucial tasks during the Reflect RAP will be to map the areas where Golden Star Group can make the most meaningful impact in reconciliation. This process will involve analysing our business operations, identifying potential gaps, and determining where we can integrate reconciliation efforts into our company’s core activities.
By mapping out these impact areas, we are setting the stage for future RAP stages, such as the Innovate and Stretch RAPs, where we will scale up our reconciliation activities. This phase will allow us to assess where we can influence real change, whether through our employment practices, procurement strategies, or community engagement initiatives.
The Reflect RAP is also a time for internal reflection. Golden Star Group will establish a RAP Working Group composed of staff from various departments to ensure broad participation in the reconciliation journey. This working group will help guide the company’s reconciliation initiatives, ensuring that all parts of the business are aligned with the goals of the RAP.
Consultation will also be critical in this phase. We will engage with external stakeholders, including Indigenous leaders, community organizations, and reconciliation advocates, to ensure our RAP is grounded in authentic and respectful practices.
Finally, the Reflect RAP will serve as a platform for setting long-term reconciliation goals. As we complete this first phase, we will be better prepared to transition to more advanced RAPs, such as the Innovate and Stretch RAPs. The insights, relationships, and knowledge gained during this stage will inform our approach to implementing long-term strategies, ensuring reconciliation remains an ongoing, evolving process within Golden Star Group.
The Reflect RAP is a vital stepping stone in Golden Star Group’s reconciliation journey. It will help us build a deep understanding of Indigenous cultures, establish meaningful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, and identify the areas where we can contribute most to reconciliation. Through these efforts, we are laying the groundwork for sustained, long-term involvement and commitment to reconciliation within our industry and the broader community.
As Golden Star Group progresses on its reconciliation journey, we will transition into the Innovate RAP, a phase designed to implement concrete, actionable strategies that align with our broader long-term vision of reconciliation. This two-year plan will allow us to expand upon the foundations set during the Reflect RAP, focusing on measurable outcomes that can contribute to real, sustainable change both within our organisation and in the broader community. The Innovate RAP marks a shift from introspection and education to active engagement, empowering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through economic opportunities, employment, and community partnerships. The following are the key components of our Innovate RAP:
One of the most crucial aspects of the Innovate RAP is to foster economic empowerment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities by creating tangible, sustainable opportunities within the facilities management sector. Golden Star Group is committed to piloting partnerships with Indigenous-owned businesses and social enterprises. These partnerships will be embedded into our procurement processes, ensuring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander suppliers have equitable access to opportunities within our supply chain.
By actively seeking out and collaborating with Indigenous-owned businesses, we will not only support economic self-determination but also help build these businesses’ capacity through long-term, mutually beneficial relationships. We recognise that economic independence is a critical factor in addressing systemic inequities Indigenous communities face. As such, we will aim to create a procurement model that prioritises Indigenous suppliers and services wherever possible
Strengthening our relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and stakeholders will be a significant focus of the Innovate RAP. Golden Star Group will continue to dialogue with Indigenous leaders, local community organisations, and cultural representatives to ensure that our actions align with the needs and aspirations of the communities we seek to support.
Through this engagement, we aim to empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people by developing tailored programs focused on skills development, employment pathways, and entrepreneurship. This includes creating mentorship programs connecting Indigenous talent with industry leaders within the facilities management sector and providing a platform for growth, leadership, and professional development. These initiatives will create long-term career opportunities, not just short-term employment, allowing individuals to build a future in the industry while retaining their cultural identity and autonomy.
Golden Star Group understands that successful reconciliation requires more than just external partnerships; it also involves fostering an inclusive, culturally competent internal environment. As part of our Innovate RAP, we will implement programs to build the cultural competency of our staff, leadership, and contractors. This will involve expanded training programs that delve deeper into the histories, cultures, and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Additionally, we will introduce regular cultural immersion experiences where staff can engage directly with Indigenous communities to gain first-hand insight into their traditions, histories, and challenges. These initiatives will be supported by a dedicated Reconciliation Working Group, which will continue to champion our reconciliation efforts across all company levels.
During the Innovate RAP, Golden Star Group will continuously evaluate and refine its reconciliation commitments. This includes assessing our sphere of influence and adjusting to ensure that reconciliation is not just a stand-alone initiative but an integral part of our business operations. We will implement robust tracking and reporting mechanisms to measure our progress against our RAP targets and ensure accountability at every stage.
The Innovate RAP will also seek feedback from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders and communities to ensure our initiatives are genuinely impactful. We will use these insights to adjust our strategies, ensuring they remain relevant, meaningful, and respectful of Indigenous perspectives.
Golden Star Group aspires to become a thought leader in reconciliation within the facilities management industry. By the end of the Innovate RAP, we plan to engage more actively in public advocacy, supporting initiatives that advance the rights, recognition, and representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This may include sponsoring Indigenous-led events, contributing to public discussions on reconciliation, and advocating for changes to industry standards that promote greater inclusion and diversity.
Through these combined efforts, the Innovate RAP will mark a pivotal point in our reconciliation journey, solidifying our commitment to creating a business environment that is inclusive, equitable, and empowering for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. By focusing on economic empowerment, community engagement, internal capacity building, and continuous refinement, Golden Star Group is ensuring that reconciliation remains at the forefront of our business strategy and culture, setting the stage for the Stretch RAP and longterm reconciliation success.
In the long term, Golden Star Group aims to transform into a Stretch RAP (Reconciliation Action Plan) organisation, a significant evolution that underscores our commitment to reconciliation and social responsibility. This comprehensive plan spans three years and is dedicated to seamlessly integrating reconciliation initiatives into our daily business practices. The major components of this transformative stage include:
As a Stretch RAP company, we aspire to be leaders within the facilities management industry. We will focus on advancing reconciliation through high-impact initiatives that resonate throughout our operations. This will entail embedding reconciliation goals into our company policies, human resources practices, and procurement strategies. By doing so, we will ensure that our reconciliation efforts are not merely ancillary tasks but are recognised as essential to our business model—effectively becoming “business as usual.” We will actively promote a culture that values diversity, equity, and inclusion, fostering an environment where reconciliation is a shared responsibility across all levels of the organisation.
Our Stretch RAP will be underpinned by clear, measurable targets reflecting our commitment to meaningful progress. For instance, we will focus on increasing the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees within our workforce, particularly in leadership roles, to ensure diverse perspectives shape our decisionmaking processes. To maintain transparency and accountability, we will regularly track and report on our progress, utilising metrics that gauge our effectiveness in meeting these targets. This commitment to measurable outcomes will allow us to celebrate achievements and identify areas for improvement.
This phase will prioritise establishing long-term partnerships with Indigenous communities and organisations, recognising that genuine reconciliation requires sustained engagement and collaboration. Our approach will emphasise continuous improvement as we work towards creating structural changes that embed reconciliation principles at every level of our business. By fostering these relationships, we will enhance our corporate responsibility and contribute to the empowerment and support of Indigenous communities, ensuring that our impact extends beyond our immediate operations.
Through this long-term plan, Golden Star Group seeks to lead by example and demonstrate that reconciliation is not just a goal but a fundamental aspect of our identity and operational excellence.
Golden Star FM’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) establishes a structured path to embed reconciliation at the core of our business. It reflects our ongoing commitment to building strong relationships and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Beginning with the Reflect RAP, we aim to deepen staff and leadership understanding of reconciliation and build respectful partnerships that enable meaningful change.
Through the Innovate RAP, we will move from reflection to action—creating tangible opportunities via employment, partnerships with Indigenous-owned businesses, and leadership initiatives. The final Stretch RAP will integrate reconciliation into our daily operations, with measurable goals that promote accountability and transparency.
Our RAP is not symbolic; it is a long-term strategy to drive positive social change within our industry. By embedding reconciliation into our business practices, Golden Star Group seeks to set a benchmark for inclusivity and leadership, contributing to a reconciled Australia.
